Dr. Mulligan joined Christiana Care’s Helen F. Graham Cancer Center and Department of Surgery in April.
Since 2000, Dr. Mulligan was chief of the General Thoracic Surgery Section, Division Cardiothoracic Surgery, at Walter Reed Army Medical Center, Washington, D.C.
He served two tours of duty in Baghdad, Iraq during Operation Iraqi Freedom. In 2003-2004, he was Chief of Thoracic Surgery at the 28th Combat Support Hospital, Iraq. He returned in 2006-2007 for a second tour of duty with the 28th, serving as Chief of General and Thoracic Surgery.
Dr. Mulligan graduated from the United States Military Academy, West Point, NY in 1983 with a bachelor’s of science degree with field of study in chemistry and civil engineering.
He received his medical degree from the Medical University of South Carolina, Charleston, in 1989 and completed internship and general surgery residency at Eisenhower Army Medical Center, Fort Gordon, Georgia in 1994.
Dr. Mulligan was a staff general surgeon at McDonald Army Community Hospital from 1994-1997. He then completed his fellowship in thoracic surgery at the Medical College of Virginia, Virginia Commonwealth University, Richmond, Virginia in 1999.
Dr. Mulligan is the author of numerous articles, abstracts, presentations and posters related to thoracic oncology and thoracic trauma. He has a special interest in lung cancer, mesothelioma and mediastinal tumors.
