Biography

Natalie Olsen joined the Thoracic Oncology Program in 2001 after receiving her masters in nursing from the UCSF School of Nursing, the only individual to receive a dual certification in geriatrics and oncology in her program. Prior to joining the Thoracic Oncology Program, Natalie worked as an oncology and medical/surgical nurse at St. Francis Hospital in San Francisco.

As a nurse practitioner and clinician in the program, Natalie sees thoracic oncology patients independently in clinic and is a key member of the multidisciplinary team. Natalie’s focus is to ensure patients complete their treatment, managing their symptoms to the extent possible and preserving their quality of life. Natalie is also part of the clinical research team, serving as a sub-investigator on the majority of clinical trial protocols. She has been invited as a guest lecturer to nursing symposiums and professional meetings where her views on lung cancer from a nursing perspective are highly regarded. She has also helped to train other clinical research coordinators at UCSF.

Natalie is a native of Washington State, and has lived in San Francisco for the past 16 years. Natalie, her husband and daughter live near the beach, enjoy soccer and playing with their dog.
