Stephen C. Yang, MD, FACS, FCCS

Stephen C. Yang, MDDr. Yang is Chief of Thoracic Surgery at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, and Director of the university’s Thoracic Oncology Program.  A focus of his research has been on discovering methods that can be used for the surgical treatment, early diagnosis, and detection of lung cancer.  Dr. Yang’s clinical research interests include investigating peritoneal mesothelioma and pericardial mesothelioma.  He has done extensive research on studying the molecular biology of mesothelioma.

After receiving a bachelor’s degree in chemistry from Duke University, Dr. Yang went on to receive his medical degree from the Medical College of Virginia. He completed a general surgery residency at the University of Texas, as well as fellowships in cardiothoracic surgery and thoracic oncology from the Medical College of Virginia and the M.D. Anderson Cancer Center.

Dr. Yang has authored or co-authored several peer-reviewed journal articles and book chapters concerning the treatment of mesothelioma and other cancers. He is board certified by the American Board of Surgery, American Board of Thoracic Surgery, Faculty of the American College of Surgeons, and the Faculty of the College of Chest Physicians.
