New Year’s Resolutions for the Mesothelioma Community

Today is the start of a new year, and it offers many an opportunity to start over by changing behaviors and breaking bad habits.  For mesothelioma patients and their families, it can provide an opportunity to refocus on what is important. Establishing a list of resolutions helps many people stick with their goals.

Following are some suggested 2013 New Year’s resolutions for mesothelioma patients, their families and caregivers.

Manage the disease and its symptoms with a complete treatment plan that includes treatments, mind-body options, nutrition suggestions and lifestyle guidelines.

Enjoy each day and look forward to whatever the next day may bring.

Stay focused on your health, and partner with your medical team when key decisions are made.

Organize all paperwork by keeping a file of important medical information, insurance papers and other critical documents.

Take time for yourself.

Help others in the mesothelioma community by offering them insights from your experiences.

Educate friends and family on the dangers of asbestos and the challenges of dealing with mesothelioma.

Learn about clinical trials that could offer treatment options that may not otherwise be available.

Insist on the best care from your medical team.

Open up to family, friends and medical professions and ask for help when needed.

Make sure to let your caregivers know they are appreciated.

Always stay positive.

Happy New Year and best wishes for 2013!
