Organization that Supports Mesothelioma Patients and Others in the Rare Disease Community Launches New Website
The National Organization for Rare Disorders (NORD) has announced the launch of their completely redesigned website. The site highlights new features to promote global networking, awareness, and advocacy on behalf of the rare disease patient community. Mesothelioma patients will benefit from these changes as they will be able to find research pertinent to their rare disease as well as links to patient organizations.
In the United States, a rare disease status is assigned to a disease or disorder if it affects fewer than 200,000 Americans at any given time. Some of the conditions designated as rare by the NIH include mesothelioma, ulcerative colitis, Alzheimer’s disease, colorectal cancer, prostate cancer and close to 7,000 other cancers and diseases.
NORD offers vital services to the public through providing information about rare diseases, referrals to patient organizations, research grants and fellowships, advocacy for the rare-disease community, and Medication Assistance Programs that help needy patients obtain certain drugs they could not otherwise afford.
NORD representatives note that the changes to the website reflect their partnerships and relationships with rare disease patient organizations, newly diagnosed patients and their families, medical researchers developing diagnostics and treatments for rare diseases, medical professionals, teachers, social workers, and others assisting patients and their families as well as the international rare disease community.
NORD’s web redesign is a phased process, and they will be adding many new features in the future.
