The American Cancer Society and the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM), one of the leading fitness certification organizations in the world, have introduced the Certified Cancer Exercise Trainer™ certification (CET).The certification is offered to fitness professionals that work with clients with cancer at various stages and levels of treatment. Studies have shown that exercise and proper nutrition can improve the quality of life and aid recovery in certain mesothelioma patients.
Having fitness professionals knowledgeable with the needs of those suffering from cancer, including mesothelioma patients, and for cancer survivors, is critical for patients and their caregivers who do not know which exercises are safe and effective.
To earn the CET certification fitness professionals who have achieved the “gold standard” through ACSM will need to successfully pass an exam focused on exercise and cancer.
